The two facts you need to know about this East Coast Low

IF THE forecast is correct at 10am tomorrow the Sunshine Coast will be copping the worst of what's more or less the perfect storm.

And these two images from the Bureau of Meteorology sum up just how bad the forecast is looking.

This first picture is taken from the BOM's surface pressure and rainfall forecast - which you view here.

The BOM is predicitng anywhere between 100mm and 250mm to fall on the Coast about 10am on Saturday

And if you freeze the picture at 10am tomorrow you'll see at that point the Sunshine Coast and Fraser Island are expected to get more than 100mm of rain - possibly even 150mm - between 10am and 1pm.

At the same time the BOM's Met Eye tool shows winds off the Coast will be howling.

The image below shows a 35 to 45 knot fetch is expected to blow across the ocean whipping a solid windswell straight at our beaches.

The dark red area shown here on the BOM's Met Eye tool shows the winds off the Coast will be howling - sending a very strong pulse of swell our way.

The one saving grace we have is that the high tide on Saturday is at 7am and by 10am it will be running out to 1.10pm low.

And by 1pm it's expected the weather will be clearing and the wind will have dropped off.

Indeed it's possible that those surfers willing to brave some very dirty water might score some good quality surf - depending on how strong the westerly winds get as the low pulls all the air away from the Coast.
