North Queensland highway closed after two-car collision

THE Captain Cook Highway has been closed just north of Ellis Beach following a two-car crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene, which is about 5km north of Ellis Beach, just after 4.30pm where two cars had collided.

It is understood two women are trapped inside one of the car but are not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

Firefighters are on scene and are working to cut them free.

The driver of the other car was uninjured.

The road is closed in both directions and motorists are urged to avoid the area or expected delays.
