Under 18s are top of the table after four rounds
RUGBY LEAGUE: It has been a tremendous start to the rugby league season for Dalby's under 18 men.
The Diehards have a perfect record thus far, with four wins from as many games.
The solid start has the men from Dalby sitting on top of the table heading into this weekend's game against Goondiwindi.
Under 18 coach, James Galligan says that the team's success has been built off defence.
"Our priority this season is to have a really strong defence,” Galligan said.
"At this level most teams can score tries, so we believe that the best way to be victorious in this competition is to have a strong defence.”
Galligan admits that the season got off to a rocky start, with a late and disruptive pre-season causing a few concerns.
However this was able to be rectified by the commitment and attitude of the players, Galligan said.
"Every one of our players has come with a really good attitude and a strong belief that we can do really well this season,” Galliagan said.
"We have 25 players which means that six of our boys don't play each week.
"Not yet has anyone been upset or sour, and the following week have taken the field and played their hardest to show why they should be in the team.”
The Diehards' most memorable win thus far was a come-from-behind win against the Warwick Cowboys.
Down 36-14 in the second half, the Diehards scored 24 unanswered points, including a try on the last play of the game to win.
Galligan described the game as an amazing game.
"Anything that could go wrong, did go wrong in the first half,” he said.
"We did not have the ball for 15 minutes at one stage.
"But in the second half our boys showed an amazing amount of fight, and showed along with our defence, we can score tries with the best teams in the competition.”
