Unions urge end to temporary work visas
UNIONS are calling for the Federal Government to abandon Australia's temporary worker visa system in favour of a permanent visa-only system to increase local employment.
The Australian Council of Trade Unions submission to a Senate inquiry on temporary visas warned of anecdotal evidence of temporary overseas workers replacing locals.
ACTU president Ged Kearney said there was "no benefit" to international workers replacing locals, despite the visas being created to fill jobs many Australians were unwilling to take.
