Video: Dramatic highway chase leads to arrest

POLICE have released footage of the moment they arrested a man following a dramatic highway chase through suburbs south of Brisbane last night.

James Benjamin Sperling, 26 from Regents Park, appeared in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today after being charged with multiple drug and driving offences following the incident, where he allegedly crashed a vehicle in Browns Plains.

Just before 9.30pm Polair observed a white Hyundai Tucson leaving a residence on Hunter St, Woodridge, allegedly driving dangerously and travelling at high speed through several red traffic lights.

Polair continued to track the vehicle southbound on the Pacific Motorway (M1), before it exited the M1 onto River Hills Rd.

A short time later the driver was allegedly seen exiting the vehicle and changing the registration plates, before re-entering and driving northbound on the M1.

Polair continued tracking the vehicle as it exited the M1 onto the Logan Motorway and a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed on the Logan Motorway at Tanah Merah.

The man allegedly continued driving despite the vehicle losing its front passenger tyre.

A short time later the vehicle lost control before crashing into the kerb at the intersection of Wembley Rd and Browns Plains Rd.

He was charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, one count of driving while disqualified, one count of authority required to possess explosives, one count of unlawful possession of a weapon and one count of receiving tainted property.

Mr Sperling was remanded in custody and will be heard again at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
