Warner whacks Proteas in Aussie win

AUSTRALIAN vice-captain David Warner has continued his run of stellar form with a match-winning 109 against South Africa in St Kitts.

It was Warner’s first one-day international on foreign soil and came at the aptly named Warner Park.

The Aussies scored 6-288 in their 50 overs with Usman Khawaja and captain Steve Smith also racking up half-centuries.

In reply the Proteas looked well set for victory at 2-177 in the 32nd over but collapsed to 252 all out in 47.4 overs.

Young leg spinner Adam Zampa claimed three wickets, while Mitchell Starc continued his comeback from injury with the wicket of Faf du Plessis for 63 before mopping up the tail to also end up with three scalps.

Josh Hazlewood removed Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla when well set but it was his dismissal of AB de Villiers which proved to be the decisive moment in the game.

De Villiers was clean bowled leaving his team needing 79 from 73 balls.

But a collapse of 7-42 sealed the win for the Aussies who now top the tri-series ladder before Tuesday morning’s (AEST) clash with the West Indies.

The only downside to the victory was a finger injury to Warner when fielding.

Team management is set to assess the injury and he could miss the clash with the Windies.
