Watch this koala cling on in ferocious winds

SPARE a thought for our little furry creatures like this koala which had to brave Thursday's wild weather in Noosa.

The clip was taken by RACV Noosa manager Darren McClenaghan and showed a koala clinging tightly to a tree as ferocious winds ripped through the region.

Wind speeds of more than 100 kph were recorded at the Maroochydore Airport.

Mr McClenaghan said the koala was known to visit the resort and make a home for itself in the tree near the main reception.

"The poor little fella, he was hanging on for dear life," Mr McClenaghan said.

"Everyone was saying 'why does the koala pick that tree as it has no protection'".

"We hoped he would hang on and he did."

The strongest winds on lasted for about "30 minutes" and while it ripped out other trees across the resort, that one stayed safe.

The koala disappeared from its safe haven in the storm later on Thursday night.

The resort didn't have too much damage, except it was without power for 24 hours.

"We had to look after 400 guests with no power from 6pm that night for nearly 24 hours," Mr McClenaghan said.

The resort put on free food for the guests and provide lamps and lanterns in the rooms.

"It was like a glamping experience," Mr McClenaghan said.

Koala Rescuer Ray Chambers said there had been no call outs for rescues during the storm.
