WINTER Water restrictions coming into effect for the Western Downs this Sunday, as residents are urged to be responsible with water usage over the cooler months.

From midnight on Sunday level one water restrictions will apply for, Brigalow, Chinchilla, Condamine, Dalby, Miles, Tara and Warra.

Meanwhile in Jandowae, residents will be moved from level five water restrictions to level three.

In a statement this week, council said it was encouraging residents to adhere to the new restrictions, to prevent harsher water restrictions in the summer.

Spokesperson for Utilities, Councillor Peter Saxelby, said that while the recent rainfall has been beneficial for the region, efforts to limit water usage need to be upheld.

"Despite the recent rainfall, and although water use generally drops during autumn and winter it's important that our residents continue their great efforts to conserve water,” Cr Saxelby said.

"Residents are reminded that certain activities are permitted under each water restriction level, and that there is still a total ban on all outside water use on Mondays across all restriction levels."

Council officers will be regularly monitoring water usage with patrols through the region.

For more information about what water restrictions and what water activities are permitted, residents can call 1300 2686 245 or visit www.wdrc.qld.gov.au.
