Western fireys lend a hand in bushfire crisis
WHILE bushfires continue to burn in the east, our firefighters of the southwest have been putting their hands up to help.
This week, 16 firefighters from Roma, Cunnamulla, Charleville, Morven, Miles, and Dalby have stepped away from their regular lives and jobs to join the Crows Nest strike team, tasked with protecting the township and supporting the local officers.
“We have four firefighters from Roma up there to form an urban strike team,” Roma station officer Chris Coggan said
“This isn’t something we do often, given the distance to get to places like this; usually firefighters are called up from Brisbane or the Gold Coast, but they are all struggling with fires in their own areas.
“So these guys got the call-up and they are able to use the resources from our areas.”
The local fireys left home on Tuesday, and will be fighting the bushfires until Sunday, before returning on Monday.
