Woman allegedly struck with Samurai sword

POLICE are investigating the unlawful wounding of a woman that occurred last night in Leichhardt.

Initial investigations indicate that around 11.29pm a man and woman were involved in an altercation at a residence in Jane Street.

During this time it is alleged the man has struck the female with an ornamental Samurai sword resulting in a laceration to the woman's neck.

A 24-year-old Leichhardt woman was taken by Queensland Ambulance Service to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 28-year-old Leichardt male was disarmed by other residents and in the process of being disarmed he sustained a head injury.

As a result the man was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains under observation.

Investigations are continuing.
