UPDATE 2PM: A WOMAN is fighting for her life with severe injuries after being thrown from her car in a crash west of Ipswich.

Police say the woman's small hatch-back hit a guard rail on Haigslea-Amberley Rd, Walloon, about 7.55am.

She was found unconscious with life-threatening injuries and has been taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where her condition was critical at last check.

Police closed the road while officers from the Forensic Crash Unit and Scenes of Crime commenced investigations.

The road has since been reopened in both directions.

EARLIER: A WOMAN has sustained serious injuries after being thrown from her vehicle in a crash this morning.

Police say the woman's vehicle collided with a barrier on Haigslea-Amberley Rd at Walloon about 7.55am.

She was found unconscious at the scene with severe injuries, and was treated at the scene before being taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Police have closed the road near the crash site and put traffic diversions in place.

Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit and Scenes of Crime will investigate.
