Photo of sickly Western Downs dog goes viral

ONE little Western Downs dog has gone viral on social media, but this time it's for all the wrong reasons.

A Chinchilla home has come under scrutiny after a Facebook post has been shared hundreds of times depicting what appears to be a malnourished dog tied up at the front of a house on a particularly short lead.

Dozens of people have been contacting Chinchilla News to voice their outrage regarding the alleged mistreatment of the animal.

Local residents have also taken to the streets to voice their concerns,

lining up out the front of the residence in

question.

Chinchilla Police have received hundreds of calls regarding the situation but say the issue is out of their hands and has urged those concerned about the animal's welfare to keep clear of the residence.

The RSPCA was contacted for comment but said it had not received any information regarding the matter.

Chinchilla residents lined the street where the dog is believed to be living before police requested they move on to protect the safety of the children living inside the home.

Residents said they were "appalled and deeply concerned" for the animal's health after an animal welfare group released a photograph on a Chinchilla community forum Facebook page depicting the dog tied to the front of the property.

It is alleged owners are managing the dog's ongoing health issues with the help of a local veterinarian.

Maranoa Animal Rescue has contacted Chinchilla News and will be looking into the matter further in the coming days.
