FIREBRAND Senator Jacqui Lambie is building a new political party, applying to register the group as the Jacqui Lambie Network.

The Tasmanian Senator came to prominence after winning her seat as a Palmer United Party candidate.

She later split from the party after repeatedly and publicly contradicting comments made by leader Clive Palmer.

The Australian reports that Ms Lambie's new party would focus on Tasmanian issues, plus her passion projects including a ban on Sharia law in Australia.

The AEC is now allowing any objections to the new party, as part of its usual registration process.

Ms Lambie's chief of staff Rob Messenger told the ABC the party would focus on the Senate first, then expand from there.

The party would also push for a national apprentice, trade and traineeship system to help boost Defence Force recruitment.
