‘You will resign’: Letter rocks AFL boss

Former Gold Coast Suns player Joel Wilkinson claims AFL boss Gillon McLachlan's position is untenable as a result of his oversight of a "dangerous" culture inside the game.

Wilkinson published a series of shocking accusations against McLachlan on Sunday when he took to Twitter to claim he received a "racist" letter from the chief executive last month.

Wilkinson in 2018 launched legal action against the AFL, claiming he was the victim of systemic racism across the AFL community but removed himself from legal proceedings last year. Wilkinson said he was being pushed into a settlement and non-disclosure agreement.

New life was breathed into the 28-year-old's claims against the AFL when former Collingwood star Heritier Lumumba cited Wilkinson's experiences as one of the reasons he does not have faith in Collingwood's internal review into his own claims of racial abuse during his time with the Magpies.

Lumumba claimed Collingwood failed to take appropriate action against a Collingwood fan, who allegedly racially vilified Wilkinson in 2012.

Wilkinson has now gone public with further accusations against the league, saying he intends to make sure McLachlan resigns as a result of what he says is a "long history of racist failures".

"Gillon McLachlan you continue to fail Indigenous and African players past and present," he posted on Twitter.

"There's a continuous pattern during your reign that is racist, dangerous and must be stopped. You will resign, we'll be making sure that happens. Your position is untenable.

"Also, that racist letter I received from you Gillon and other parties June 6th is so racist you won't get away with it. Along with all the incidents of racism for years."

He also claimed the AFL Players' Association has failed to advance the cause of the non-white players in the league.

"@AFLPlayers white players association. Or will you finally prove otherwise (AFLPA boss) @Marsh_Paul," he wrote.

"Gillon Mclachlan's position as CEO is untenable. The AFLPA must take action against this long history of racist failures from the AFL, Gillon McLachlan."

Lumumba last month posted his support for Lumumba.

"Backing and standing with my brother on all accounts," he wrote on Twitter.

"There's a very consistent pattern of AFL clubs and the @AFL racially abusing/failing black players and furthermore misleading and deceiving the public," Wilkinson wrote.

"A lot more to come."

It comes after Sam Newman publicly torched the AFL after the league was forced to apologise for singling out Indigenous players in an email to club doctors.

The AFL is reported to have informed club doctors that under revised Queensland Government border protection measures, the game's Indigenous players required a pneumococcal vaccination.

However, the league back-tracked on Friday when it emerged that the vaccination was not required for players to meet the strict biosecurity protocols.

"The AFL apologises to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players and staff and the AFLPA for not providing sufficient clarity around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players receiving a pneumococcal vaccination ahead of entering Queensland and for any distress this has caused them and their families," a league statement read.

"The AFL acknowledges it could have obtained and shared more information from the Queensland Government health authorities regarding the vaccination including the underlyinghealth safety benefits and that it can improve its processes in providing information to support club doctors in ensuring cultural safety in provision of health to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

"The AFL is committed to working closely with the AFLPA and the players, our clubs and our doctors to resolve the situation."
